Documentary Tiny babies fighting for life is an upsetting business, but that's the idea here: again and again we see newborns on the brink, poised between new life and extinction. The worst part is when the little pink bundles turn blue, and doctors and nurses swarm round them, shoving in tubes and needles. "Breathe!" you fi nd yourself yelling, and mostly, thankfully, they do. What marks the series out from other hospital docs is that we don't just see what's happening on the outside. The cameras keep swooping into the babies' bodies, apparently burrowing through arteries and organs with a squishy sound like a drain clearing. It's all done with special effects, obviously, but it doesn't half liven up the story. You may get fed up with Andrew Lincoln's narration, and one effects shot of baby lungs is used about 27 times, but it's a good mix of graphic and gripping. RT reviewer - David Butcher
