This page is just to give people a taste of some of the bands I like. I'm going to try to refrain from giving vague descriptions like "they are cool" and "fantastic" and stuff, because that's not really saying much.
I also quite like The Bangles, Semisonic, David Gray, Snug, Beth Orton, Sparklehorse, Robyn Hitchcock, R.E.M., Travis, Tom Barnes, Vertical Horizon, Celtus, Neil Finn, Crowded House, Del Amitri and Toad The Wet Sprocket amongst various others.
Audio Samples
The audio samples on this website are now in Ogg Vorbis format. This has two advantages over similar formats (MP3, Windows Media Format, Real Player):
- It is a modern audio format which takes advantages of recent breakthroughs in compression to provide better quality sound in a smaller file; and
- It is an open format, which means that you can play it on any operating system and you are in total control of your Ogg files. (Compare this to Windows Media Format — when this man reconfigured his computer, Windows Media Player refused to let him play his collection, claiming it was "unlicensed".)
Where To Get An Ogg Player
OS | Player |
---|---|
Here is an Ogg Vorbis plugin for Winamp. | |
OggDrop is probably what you're looking for. | |
XMMS (the most kickass media player ever) of course has Vorbis support built right in. | |
XMMS should work on *BSD Unices too. | |
Give VorbisTools a try. I'm also told that SoundPlay has built-in Vorbis support. |
Disclaimer
All audio samples are (roughly) 30 to 40 seconds long (tiny portions of the original songs); are distributed free of charge to educate visitors to this website about the bands and artists that recorded them; and are clearly intended to promote the original recordings. They therefore come under "fair use" in copyright law.
